Governor Ahmed Keeps Pledge to Local Government Workers, Releases N162m for July Salary

In keeping with his pledge to help local government councils pay July 2016 staff salaries in full, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed this evening  approved the release of N162,938,836.31 to augment Local Government allocation for the month.

News of the approval was conveyed by the State Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Demola Banu in a statement released on Thursday night. Alhaji Banu assured that following the approval, the money will be released to the 16 local government councils on Friday to enable them pay workers promptly.

Recall that Governor Ahmed, during a post-Joint Accounts Allocation Committee(JAAC) meeting with LG chairmen, and labour leaders at Government House, Ilorin, acceded to a plea by the chairmen for assistance to enable them pay a full month’s salary as the July allocation, though higher, was not sufficient.

Governor Ahmed also committed to working with the local government chairmen to clear existing salary and pension arrears. He however urged them to leverage on ALGON as a platform for lobbying the federal government for further help just as governors secured palliatives for states through the Nigerian Governor's Forum .

Alhaji Ahmed also directed the chairmen to hold monthly meetings with stakeholders in their various communities during which details of federation allocation and the utilization plan should be discussed openly in the interest of transparency.

Paul Pogba to Manchester United: Midfielder 'completes move' but agent Mino Raiola rejects £112m deal claims

After weeks of speculation, it looks like Pogba's return to Old Trafford has finally been formalised and will be officially confirmed shortly.
Paul Pogba’s £112m return toManchester United has reportedly been agreed and is likely to be confirmed by the club this weekend with the Frenchman set to earn £290,000-a-week.

The 23-year-old will move to Old Trafford as part of a world-record deal - once agent, salary and administrative fees are included - making him the most expensive football player in history.

The Independent understands that United will pay £92m for the Juventus midfielder while the Serie A giants are expected to foot the tax bill in a move which will lower the expectation on Pogba.

Because of this, it has been reported that Juventus will announce the transfer fee at £84.3m, just shy of the £86m Real Madrid paid to Tottenham Hotspur for Gareth Bale in 2013.

Furthermore, United and Juventus have also agreed upon a £20m agent fee for Mino Raiola, the Dutch super-agent, with the Italian champions paying for the additional £4m owed.

This follows the news that Pogba had flown to Los Angeles from Miami for his medical on Thursday evening. With this evaluation now believed to have been completed, theDaily Mail suggests that the 23-year-old has agreed to sign a five-year contract with United worth £290,000-a-week.
As part of the deal, Juventus will receive a bonus payment should the French ace renew his United contract and another should he win the Ballon d’Or.
The agreed £92m fee easily smashes the previous transfer record paid by a British club when United brought Angel Di Maria to Old Trafford from the the Real Madrid for £59.7m two years' ago.

Toyin Aimakhu Writes About the #SaveMayowa Saga and Her Involvement

In view of the recent happenings around Mayowa Ahmed’s ill health and the many allegations of fraud surrounding the funds raised, it has become imperative that I come clean by stating my side of the story and by implications, set the record straight.

When I got wind of Mayowa’s sickness, I was moved to tears and immediately sought to know how I could help, hence my on-the-spot video which went viral as my genuine intervention.

Indeed, I was overwhelmed by the quick response of well-meaning Nigerians to whom I will forever owe a debt of gratitude.

But all this changed yesterday, Thursday 28th, July, when I went to the hospital in the morning to check as well as follow up on Mayowa. Her brother had told everyone to leave them alone because they wanted privacy. Although I was shocked at the sudden change in attitude, especially the tone of communication, I still did not suspect anything was amiss.

However, on my way out, I received a call from one Aramide Kasumu of Life Stake Foundation, who would later claim the whole Mayowa Ahmed fund raiser was a scam. Importantly, she wanted to know the extent of my involvement and in her words, “so that when they are giving their reports, I would not be roped into it”. She went further to state that the family deceived everyone in the first place by raising funds for Mayowa despite the fact that her case was helpless and the hopes of her survival was near impossible. She seemed to know so much, I reckoned.

Upon hearing this, I was appalled and in a bid to clear my name, I went back to the hospital in palpable anger and demanded explanations from all concerned. Perhaps, I overreacted when I went into a rage of anger over the matter with the CSO. I then alerted the Police PRO, who invited the parties involved to the police command.

I want to state for the record that I have never been a fraud and will never partake in one, not even at this stage of my career (which I hold to heart). All my efforts were strictly on humanitarian grounds without recourse to any pecuniary consideration or the resort to cheap fame.

That said, whatever discomfort my reactions may have cost anyone from any quarters is highly regretted and I take responsibility.

Whilst I wish Mayowa a quick recovery and divine intervention, I want to urge us as a people to continue to exhibit that enviable Nigerian spirit of compassion and generosity and not because of this isolated case cease to be our sister/brother’s keeper. I love you all and thank you.

Linda Ikeji and Toyin Aimakhu Are Liars” – Mayowa’s Sister Speaks #SaveMayowa

Today, July 28, 2016, there were reports that the #SaveMayowa which was a campaign to raise funds for Ahmed Mayowa Shukurat who has stage IV ovarian cancer was a scam by her family members to take money from innocent Nigerians.

According to these unconfirmed reports doctors in LUTH had already told Ahmed Mayowa Shukurat’s family that her case was advanced and it was too late for her to be saved but the family still went ahead to raise funds by deceiving Nigerians that her cancer was curable.

Also Toyin Aimakhu who spearheaded the movement to save Ahmed Mayowa Shukurat’s life yesterday took to her Instagram page to say that the #SaveMayowa campaign was fake and Nigerians should stop donating.

“Please to the public this is so fake, no more GoFunds on behalf of Mayowa and whoever is behind this shame on you. Please disregard any information/s about her pls.

If you need any info please kindly get in touch with me please and will bring more info tonight again, whoever created this acct shame on you again and lastly to all our Pastors, Alfas and traditionalists and everyone please she needs our prayers more now please and I’m sure god wants to use Mayowa case to let us know we Nigerians love ourselves and we are the best country in the world.”, she wrote on her page.

Toyin Aimakhu took a step further by taking members of the Nigerian police force to LUTH to arrest Ahmed Mayowa Shukurat’s brothers. You can see her in LUTH today in the videos below;

Pulse went to LUTH to investigate if the accusations were true.

Speaking to Ahmed Mayowa Shukurat’s sister Ahmed Mariam at LUTH she told Pulse that Toyin Aimakhu’s accusations are untrue and unfounded.

“I don’t know why Toyin Aimakhu and Linda Ikeji are saying we are scamming Nigerians. It’s a lie! No doctor ever told us my sis cannot survive this they just told us to do something and take her out of the country. Nigerians we did not scam u ooo it’s a lie oo. Linda Ikeji has never been in this story and now she’s just cooking up everything to just…

“Right now my sis is in d room crying. I don’t know what Linda wants from us. It is true. she has ovarian cancer. We sent the medical report we posted everything on line. At least we posted everything online.

“No doctor ever told us it’s stage four. It’s not until two weeks ago they told us she has ovarian cancer. So even if we know she’s going to die we have to do something. Nobody even asked her to do the video she did it herself she’s tired.. I don’t know where Linda cooked d story” she told Pulse exclusively.

By the time Pulse got there Toyin Aimakhu and some relatives had been moved to the Area D Police command Mushin, Lagos.

Video Below:

Meanwhile, we had a chat with her cousin, Olamide who told Pulse her travelling plans are already underway.

He said,

“To my surprise. I got here this morning around 12. I got a call from my friend that there’s a scene happening that Toyin Aimakhu came in.

A brother of mine asked her to move out that Mayowa has to rest. Her travelling plan is already underway. Toyin came in this morning, she received a call from someone and the person told her that she heard from someone from a Doctor that it is a scam that they said my cousin is going to die. She heard it from a doctor here.

There is no doctor here that has come out to say my cousin is going to die. If they had even told us Mayowa is going to die, would we still come out to raise the money. There’s a clause if the hospital told us we wouldn’t have raised the money. We want our cousin to live, she needs to live. The family has been trying from the first stage.”

Also confirmed sources at the hospital disclosed Aimakhu did not come to find out from Luth about the said patient, Ahmed Mayowa Shukurat.

According to them the medical certificates don’t bear the letter head of LUTH.

Ahmed Mayowa Shukurat’s family has released a general statement denouncing the allegations. You can read it below;

Hello all,

We have been called by friends, family and everyone who has our contacts that our raising funds for Mayo is a scam. We were also informed that some persons had made statements concerning her state and her ability to pull through this ordeal.

As a family we wish to make these affirmative statements:

· mayowa is presently in LUTH receiving treatments that will prepare her for 7hr trip to Abu Dhabi. We have also engaged the services of the Flying Doctors to accompany her on the trip based on recommendation by the Doctors in LUTH (Form attached)

· mayowa is receiving treatment in LUTH to allow her be able to travel as advised by the Doctors in LUTH and she has been transfused to help improve her PCV

· The funds are solely for mayowa’ s treatment and for no other reason.

· We await her Visa for travel documents to commence the journey as we are in touch with the doctors abroad and they are awaiting her arrival.

We appreciate the contributions made by Nigerians on this journey. mayowa will live to tell this story and you shall be one of the audiences by His grace.

Please support us with prayers as you will surely be told the success story as we have not given up on mayowa living her life and we will never give up until the work God has started is finished.

Thank you once again and will provide updates on her treatment and procedures.

Signed

The Ahmed Family

Is #SaveMayowa a scam or not? You will answer this question when you read this.

When I heard about #SaveMayowa and started reaching out to people online and offline, I saw that they had received approximately (as are all figures in this) N17million in the Access Bank account and $45k in the GoFundMe. Rough calculations (after taking out GoFundMe’s 6.5%) meant they needed roughly N5million to reach the N32million mark. Few hours later, it was announced that they had hit N31m in Access Bank and the GoFundMe had about $70k. We had crossed the mark, by far but I encouraged people to keep donating for contingencies.

So, imagine my surprise when I saw tweets saying the mark had not been met. I asked the person what she meant and she claimed she was with Mayowa, and gave me her number to call. I called her and she explained that the $100,000 on GoFundMe was the hospital bill, so they still needed money for transportation, after-care, contingencies, etc. I was furious this wasn’t communicated, and we were under the impression ALL she needed was N32m for everything. And I expressed my displeasure. The family and those announcing should have been more honest with the amount they needed. The moment people start imploring others to help, the moment people actually donate, they wouldn’t want to feel they’d been deceived.

Well, I stopped talking about the case because I felt someone wasn’t being very honest, but I kept tracking events.

Today, on hearing that Toyin Aimakhu and others who were carrying this case on their head had gone to LUTH because the family was apparently trying to milk Mayowa’s situation and scam the nation weakened me. I tried reaching the person I spoke to yesterday, I couldn’t. I checked the timeline of @d_problemsolver who actively championed this cause as well, and she also said no one was giving her answers. I believed something was up. And I took to my timeline to express my disappointment.

Now the family has released a statement saying #SaveMayowa is not a scam and she is going to Abu Dhabi (not the US as earlier communicated), I think I’m going to put my vex aside (for the sake of the girl) and give them the benefit of doubt.

Did the family scam Nigerians? Well, maybe they weren’t open with how much was actually needed (so as not to discourage people from donating); maybe they weren’t promtply updating us with next steps (once people involve their money in a project, it is fair that they know how that money is spent); maybe the fact that they had different people saying different things made it seem shady, but I WANT TO BELIEVE that the words “where there is life, there is hope” is the reason they started this campaign, and they would indeed use the monies donated to help Mayowa get better.

Amen.

Police Officer detained for allegedly stealing plantain

A police inspector attached to the Railway Police Command, Ebute-Meta, identified only as Joseph, has been detained for allegedly stealing bunches of plantain.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday while trying to hide the plantain in two trucks.

It was learnt that a senior police officer in the command ordered his detention and his arraignment for the crime.

A source at the command, however, said another senior officer pleaded with the officer that the suspect be released as the incident could embarrass the command.

He said, “The inspector is attached to the Railway Police Command. On Tuesday around 12pm, he went to the commissioner’s lodge and harvested plantains without any authority. As if that was not bad enough, he brought two trucks into the command to take the plantain away. He wanted to cover up the plantains with some iron sheets so that he could take them through the gate without being detected.

“He was on this when some workers at the Railway Command called the attention of the authorities to it and he was arrested.”

Another source told PUNCH Metro that the superior officer of the suspect pleaded for his release.

He said, “The matter is still on. The senior officer who pleaded that he should not be prosecuted explained that the action could dent the image of the command.”

The Commissioner of Police, Railway Police Command, Pius Imue, however, said he was not in Lagos, adding that he could not comment on the incident.

He said, “I have been in Abuja since last weekend for the inauguration of the Abuja-Kaduna railway line, so I haven’t been on the ground to know about the incident. And if this happened in the command, officers who were on the ground would have attended to it.”

Hillary Clinton to make history as Obama endorses Clinton as political heir

United States (U.S.) President Barack Obama has delivered a stirring speech at the Democratic convention, hailing Hillary Clinton as his political heir and rounding on “home-grown demagogue” Donald Trump.

“There has never been a man or woman, not me, not Bill, nobody more qualified than Hillary” to be president, he said.

When boos rang out at the name of the Republican candidate, Mr. Obama simply said: “Don’t boo. Vote.”
Mr. Trump responded by rejecting the president’s portrayal of optimism.

“Our country does not feel ‘great already’ to the millions of wonderful people living in poverty, violence and despair,” he said on Twitter.

Mr. Obama extolled Mrs. Clinton’s character, calling her a “leader with real plans to break down barriers, blast through glass ceilings and widen the circle of opportunity to every single American”.

“She’s been there for us, even if we haven’t always noticed,” he said.

Mr. Obama described his nation as “full of courage”, “decent and generous”, but also concerned about racial divisions and “frustrated with political gridlock”.

He said: “Tonight, I ask you to do for Hillary Clinton what you did for me. I ask you to carry her the same way you carried me.”

President Obama is good at this. He’s really, really good at this.

For all his flaws – and conservatives will be quick to point them out – he’s always been able to deliver a pitch-perfect speech on the biggest stages, and this was no exception.

It was the kind of speech that had some conservatives shaking their heads, wondering how their party ceded the optimistic high ground to their opponents. Mr. Obama even quoted Ronald Reagan’s “shining city on a hill” line, if only to make the political shift all the more clear.

But he also reserved fierce words for Mr. Trump, challenging the Republican’s view of the U.S. as “a divided crime scene”.

Mr. Obama said the U.S. he knew was not a “country where we turn against each other, and turn away from the rest of the world”.

He added: “Our power doesn’t come from some self-declared saviour promising that he alone can restore order as long as we do things his way.”

Turning to Mr. Trump’s business acumen, he said: “I know plenty of businessmen and women who have achieved remarkable success without leaving a trail of lawsuits and unpaid workers and people feeling like they got cheated.”

Mr. Obama added: “Does anyone really believe that a guy who spent his 70 years on this Earth showing no regard for working people is suddenly going to be your champion, your voice? No.”

Stop sabotaging your healthy life style

You exercise regularly, eat your fruits and veggies and never miss an annual exam, and it’s paying off. You look and feel great! But even though you’re fit and healthy right now, that doesn’t necessarily mean your daily so-called “good” habits will help you maintain your wellbeing into the future. Read on to learn about the mistakes you may be making, and how you can avoid them. Your future self is sure to thank you!

You don’t “stress eat” at the office but…you don’t take time to decompress after work
You manage to eat healthy at work, which is pretty impressive – especially on super stressful days – but you’ve got to let off some steam somehow. If you don’t, it could lead to chronically elevated cortisol levels, causing sleep and immunity problems, blood-sugar abnormalities and weight gain. How should you chillax (I’m not sure I’m comfortable with this word)? Stress relief is very individualized, so what helps your BFF relax may not work for you. Give a few different tactics a try and see what works best for you. Practicing yoga, meeting up with friends and unplugging from technology for an evening are all things worth a shot.

You eat a healthy dinner but…you don’t go to sleep early enough
We give you props for making the time to cook up a healthy meal, but if you stay up late at night watching TV or buried in your social media feed, you may be counteracting some of your hard work in the kitchen. Most of us don’t get enough shut eye. Over time, this can lead to weight gain, anxiety, depression and insulin resistance – which can trigger type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. On the other hand, a good night’s rest fuels the production of fat-burning hormones, so logging a solid seven or eight hours of shut eye each evening should be a priority, especially if you’re trying to maintain a healthy weight or drop a few pounds.

You don’t stray from your new diet but…you don’t compensate for its nutritional restrictions
If you’ve just hopped on the Paleo or low-carb bandwagon, proceed with caution! Often diets that cut out entire food groups do not allow for the balance and moderation we need to follow a healthy, lifelong eating plan. Plus, dieters who follow these plans may be prone to potentially dangerous nutritional deficiencies. Or you may simply get bored with your restricted plan and end up overeating down the road.

You make home-cooked meals but…your portions are bigger that a restaurants
Just because your meal is healthy doesn’t mean you don’t have to practice portion control. Remember, even virtuous foods have calories! Half of your plate should be filled with veggies and the remaining half should hold a cellphone-sized serving of lean protein, a fist-sized serving of grains and a bit of fat no larger than the size of your pointer finger.

You go to the doctor but…you don’t get tested for nutritional deficiencies
Although you may get scanned for high cholesterol or diabetes at your annual exam, they don’t typically test or look for physical signs of nutritional deficiencies – which can be dangerous! Have your vitamin D levels checked if nothing else. Many people are deficient and don’t even know it, and not getting enough may increase the risk of osteoporosis, heart disease and certain types of cancer.

You steer clear of trans fats but…you keep healthy fats off your plate too
You know that eating trans fats can increase your risk of heart disease, weight gain and stroke, so you’re smart to stay away. But not all fats need to make your “do not eat” list. Consuming healthy fats like flax seeds and nuts can actually help you slim down and stay healthy. Fats not only help you absorb many of the vitamins from your diets, but they also help keep you fuller longer, which can aid weight loss efforts.Try consuming one serving of healthy fats each time you sit down to eat. This could be 1/4 cup of almonds or walnuts, some sautéed veggies cooked with a tablespoon of olive oil or a few slices of avocado.
You order a virtuous-sounding restaurant dish but…you don’t ask how it’s cooked
Chefs often add fat and salt to make meals taste better – but these ingredients aren’t necessarily something they advertise on the menu. Since you’ve already taken such care to choose a meal that sounds healthy, take the extra step and ask your server if there is any cream or butter in your dish. If there is, ask for your veggies and meats to be cooked dry and have sauces come on the side so you control how much ends up on your plate. You can save up to 1,000 calories at each meal by making this simple request!

You watch your calorie intake but…you ignore Sodium
Your favorite trail mix only has 150-calories, but did you check to see how much sodium is lurking inside the package? All too often, those who aren’t suffering from a health condition overlook that part of the nutrition label. People consume, on average, about 50 percent more than the daily-recommended intake of salt, and most of the excess sodium is coming from processed foods. Sticking to The Institute of Medicine’s daily recommendation of 2,300mg per day or less can help you keep a bloated belly, high blood pressure and other health conditions at bay.

You choose “diet” treats but…you never indulge in the real deal
If every time you have a cookie craving you buy a low-fat package, you may be doing your body a disservice. Not only are diet foods typically filled with enough sugar to derail even the most disciplined dieter, but these faux sweet treats are also made with additives that can make you feel unsatisfied. In turn, you’ll likely consume far more calories than you intended. To stay trim, eat the real thing, but downsize your portion. If you love ice cream, for example, skip the fro-yo and have a small scoop of premium.
Good luck out there!

Keshi begins final journey As memorial match played in honour of the former super eagle handler

UActivities for the burial of the late coach ‎of the senior national team, the Super Eagles, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, began yesterday with a funeral mass held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, Edo State yesterday.

The remains of the former Super Eagles’ captain arrived the church in a black Mercedes-Benz ambulance, accompanied by his children, family members and friends.

In his sermons, the officiating priest, Very Rev. Fr. Richard Ofere, said Keshi lived an exemplary live as a member of the parish, where he contributed selflessly to the development of football, adding that the late football icon was always willing to serve, even in the midst of scarce resources.

Ofere harped on the need to believe in the resurrection, noting that death was not the end of the life of a true Christian.

As part of yesterday’s activities, friends and colleagues of the late football icon played a novelty match in his honour at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.

Among the late Keshi’s teammates on the pitch were Austin Eguavoen, Uche Okechukwu, Mutiu Adepoju, Victor Ikpeba and Peter Rufai.

HOT NEWS: Jibrin puts speaker house of representative Hon. Yakub Dogara in trouble! He just did this

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a senior legislator at the House of Representatives, has revealed that his lawyers have approached the nation’s anti-graft agencies in his effort to unravel how Speaker Yakubu Dogara and others padded the 2016 budget.
He has also vowed never to apologise to Speaker Yakubu Dogara over allegations that the speaker and others padded the 2016 budget.

Jibrin’s statement to NAIJ.com late Wednesday, July 27, comes in a series of tweets in which he said: “I will not and will never apologize to a shameless fraud in high office who has glaringly abused public trust like speaker Dogara and three others.”

The lawmaker replied to Dogara’s threat which the speaker made earlier on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 giving Jibrin a seven-day ultimatum to tender an unreserved apology to him to retract all allegations made against him or face legal action.

The Kano lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency in the National assembly described the legal action threats by Dogara as “quite predicable.”

Jibrin wrote through his verified twitter account: “@AbdulAbmJ‪ I know he will rush to court in order to invoke the house rules that matter in court cannot be heard on the floor.”

Jibrin, an All Progressives Congress(APC)  lawmaker who accused Dogara and three others of allocating projects worth N40 billion to themselves in the 2016 budget continued: “I have responded to their allegations rather than respond to mine, he is rushing to court. I stand by my allegations and will not withdraw them.

“He failed to realize that the law is not intended to protect corrupt people. It is such a shame.”

Jibrin, who seemed unperturbed, also announced that his lawyer’s have approached the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
“I am happy to announce that my lawyers have officially approached the EFCC and the ICPC towards working out a date for me to personally submit my petition against Speaker Yakubu Dogara, deputy speaker, Yusuf Lasun, whip, Alhassan Doguwa and minority leader, Leo Ogor.

“I believe once a date is agreed with the anti- corruption agencies, we would have begun the process of making these characters pay for abusing their office,” he said.

Jibrin, had demanded the immediate resignation of Dogara and the three other principal officers for allocating the sum to themselves out of N100 billion earmarked for constituency projects of all lawmakers.

EFCC invites Ekiti contractor for allegedly giving kickbacks to the Governor.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has invited a contractor with the Ekiti State Government, Samchese Nigeria Limited, for allegedly giving kickbacks to Governor Ayodele Fayose.
In a letter addressed to the chairman of the firm, the EFCC asked him to appear before it on Thursday (today).
The commission is investigating the company for alleged conspiracy, abuse of office, money laundering and theft.

Samchese Nigeria Limited is one of the firm, that allegedly used kickbacks to buy properties for Fayose.
Meanwhile, the EFCC is set to probe some state governments that allegedly embezzled the ecological funds given to them.
It was learnt on Wednesday that the anti-graft agency had received some petitions against some state governors who diverted the funds.
A source at the agency said, “We will probe some states involved in the diversion of ecological funds but it will not be all the states and it will not be at the same time. It will be on a case-by-case basis.”
Besides the state governments, it will be recalled that the Ecological Fund Office was in 2014 directed by the Federal Executive Council to fund the procurement and nationwide distribution of over 750,000 clean cooking stoves and 18,000 wonder bags, at a cost of over N9.2bn.
The Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology raised the alarm that it could be a ploy to fund the 2015 elections by the Goodluck Jonathan government.
Two per cent of the monthly allocation from the Federation Account is allocated to the Ecological Fund Office.
Based on  an analysis of the table of distribution from FAAC obtained from the website of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, N107.79bn was allocated for ecology in 2014 and 2015.
According to the analysis, N46.89bn was allocated in 2014 while 2015 had an allocation of N60.9bn.
The Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Bello Masari, had in an interview with journalists in Abuja on Friday faulted the execution of N1.9bn drainage contract in the Katsina metropolis by the former administration in the state. The money was sourced from the Ecological Fund Office.
The contract was given at N1.99bn and the contractor collected 90 per cent of the payment. He has collected over N1.7bn.
“He said he had done the job with the best material. We got an independent person to do an assessment of the job. We said he should be as generous as possible but he valued the contractor’s maximum work at N700m.
“The contractor has abandoned the site. The money given to him was not covered by any bank guarantee or insurance guarantee. It was just given to him. We said, if you cannot complete the work as designed, this money was collected from the Ecological Fund account in Abuja, return it.
An audit   of the Ecological Fund between 2007 and 2011 by the House of Representatives early this year revealed that money was released to people outside the purpose of setting up the fund.
According to the audit report,   funds were allocated to 139 contractors for projects, out of which only 36 were completed and two stalled and N24.2bn  was paid to the contractors, with an outstanding of N16.5bn.
“But the actual fund transferred to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Ecological Fund Office account for execution of ecological projects from 2007 to 2011 was N56.9bn,” the report stated.

Mimiko justifies distribution of free foodstuffs to the people of Ondo state

The second phase of the free food distribution programme of the Ondo State Government has moved to the southern senatorial district of the state.
A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, on Wednesday, said the state government rounded off the distribution of foodstuffs in the four local government areas in Akoko last Friday.
It quoted the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, as justifying the need for the palliative.
Mimiko said, “It is obvious there is hunger in the land and we, as a government, cannot pretend that this is not the case.”
Over 5,000 people had benefitted from the government’s largesse when the programme kicked off in Ikare, the statement said.
The palliative programme is designed for the 18 local government areas of the state and it targets 100,000 women irrespective of party affiliations.
The second phase of the scheme took off in Ose and Owo local government areas on Monday.
Mimiko said the distribution of foodstuffs in Ose and Owo local government areas was successful.
He said, “The distributing team moved to Ese-Odo and Okitipupa local government areas on Wednesday and will also distribute foodstuffs in Ilaje, Irele, Ile-Oluji and Odigbo local government areas
“All these communities are in the southern district of the state. The next phase of distribution commences next week.”
Some groups have commended the gesture of the government, describing it as relieving.
The Secretary, Association of Women Plank Merchants, Akoko branch, Mrs. Janet Ijaduade, said the distribution of the foodstuffs underscored the kindness of the governor.
She added that the gesture showed that the governor was full of compassion for women folk.
The Publicity Secretary, Ondo State Hairdressers Association, Mrs. Simbo Akinwumi, said the gesture had brought joy and hope to the people.
She enjoined the government to continue with the gesture until the economic crunch afflicting the country abated.

Davido recalls going against dad’s wish to pursue a career in music. In an Exclusive chat with america base radio presenter Ebro Darden in New York

Davido recalls going against dad’s wish to pursue a career in music Davido‘s journey to stardom happened by him going against his dad, Deji Adeleke‘s wishes prompting the billionaire businessman to threaten the singer’s manager, Kamal.

In a new interview with Ebro Darden of Hot 97in New York, days after his performance at One Africa Music Fest, Davido revealed his initial challenges in pursuing his music career.

‘I was hanging out with D’banj at the time, he had that Kanye deal. I now told my Dad that I was trying to stay, and he was like ‘What? My friend you better go back to school,’ he recalled.
‘I called my roommate, and told him ‘Imma do this no more. If my Dad calls, tell him you don’t know where I’m at.
‘When I left, my family was looking for me for like six months. They sent a letter to D’banj house, they sent s letter to Psquare house, they sent letters to everybody’s house. My Dad was calling the school, and they were telling him; ‘He wasn’t even here for the past semester, he left..’ It was like the whole Nigeria knew who I was before I even dropped a single. Kamal that is my manager now, used to be Don Jazzy’s assistant. My Dad started calling him and said ‘if I see you guys with my son, all of you are getting arrested.’
Somewhere else in the interview, he revealed he has three songs in the works with American rapper Young Thug, while he also defined his genre of music.
‘I don’t even call my music Afrobeat, I call mine Afrofusion. To me it’s just too different. I can’t tell you it’s Afrobeat, because it’s not. ‘You know the originator of the Afrobeat is Fela. Fela has a sound which I can say has heavy baseline, brass instrument, [and] the percussion is different. If you ask me ‘Gobe’ is Calypso, Afro mixed with Calypso. But I feel like the Afrobeat is catchy and has caught the wave since time. Because I know some Afrobeat songs that I don’t want to call Afrobeat. I call them Afro-Pop or I call Afro Trap. Everything is just still African music,’ he said.

POLITICS: Pesident Buhari Approves The Impeachment of Sen. Ike Ekweremadu As DSP

Stakeholders and state governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have resolved with President’s permission to do all within their powers to ensure that Senator Ike Ekweremadu is removed as the Deputy President of the Senate.

PUNCH gathered that this was the fallout of the two-hour meeting the governors had with President Muhammadu Buhari and other stakeholders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, had initially told State House correspondents at the end of the meeting that the governors had decided to intervene in the crisis in the National Assembly, without giving details of their intervention.
A source told PUNCH that the governors sympathised with the President (Buhari) for working with a National Assembly that is largely seen as unfriendly.
“Particularly, they observed that in the absence of the President of the Senate, the next person is his deputy. They therefore agreed that it was an anomalous situation for a PDP person to continue as the Deputy President of the Senate.
They sought and got the President’s permission to intervene in the matter in their own way“, source said.
Okorocha, the Chairman of the APC Governors forum, had on Monday, said Ekweremadu should get ready to vacate his seat as the Deputy Senate President.

Stunt gone wrong? Nollywood actor gets burnt on set!

Thenetng has obtained photos and video from the set of a Nollywood movie that shows talented actor, Ani Iyoho get burnt and currently fighting for his life after a location tragedy on set of a movie being directed byStanlee Ohikhuare.
We hear that the actor was severely burnt on the set of Behind the Wheels in Lekki, Lagos yesterday when a fire scene went horribly wrong.
Confusion ensued and despite efforts to use fire extinguishers to put the fire under control, the tragedy could not be averted.
A Nollywood insider tells us, ‘I think it’s a stunt to promote the new movie because Nigerian actors and directors are not so daring to set fire on themselves’.
Another source who was on set spoke to Thenetng saying, ‘the director, Stanlee Ohikhuare can be very eccentric. This shot should have been left out. We tried it first about three weeks ago and the fire did not light well’
The injured actor was reportedly rushed to an undisclosed hospital where he has been placed under emergency care.
We tried to contact the director but he has not picked our calls, neither has he responded to our text message.

20 years of marital bliss, actress Omotola Jalade (Omo Sexy) speaks on secret behind her marriage life and fame. Single ladies have to learn from this

Top Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde who recently celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary in grand style and even went on a second honeymoon with her pilot husband Captain Matthew Ekeinde spoke to on the condition a woman should walk away from her marriage. NAIJ caught up with the mother of four, who has for three years running being the brand ambassador for a beauty product Ghandour Cosmetics, at the launch of the product in Nigeria where she talked about beauty and the state of the nation and marriage.

For how long have you been with Ghandour?

For three years. Though this is their first time in Nigeria but they have been in Ghana for two years and I have been their ambassador since then and I am comfortable with it. For me to be their brand ambassador for three years it must be comfortable.

You recently celebrated 20 years wedding anniversary, how does it feel being married for 20 years in the entertainment industry?

I am just thankful. I am married to my friend, my destiny supporter. There is no relationship without its challenges. 20 years and some people said OMG you guys must be without stress. I just want people to know that if you are determined to do it in life and you are determined to make it you will make it. You have troubles generally in life with your parents, with your siblings so it’s a normal thing. Don’t use every opportunity of a quarrel in a relationship or with your spouse to justify the fact that everybody says marriage is hard. It is not any harder I think than any other relationship we have in life with your business partners or with your siblings. I understand that there are some relationships that have more challenges. If there is any form of abuse involved I think they should find their way out quickly but if there is no abuse or any other thing you can hang in. Leaving that I have had good times with my spouse, just be friends that’s what matters must.

Do you have any future plans?

MUST READ:  See the Photo of Senator Ben Bruce and Hot Daughter that Got People Talking (Photo)

You know me very well I don’t talk about future plans because  by God’s grace my life happens very quickly and sometimes I can’t even catch up with myself so it doesn’t make any sense talking about future plans but I guess we all want to be healthy and alive as well.

What is your definition of beauty and how does it reflect in a woman?

I think for women beauty is in confidence. If you are a confident woman and understand your self-worth I think you are beautiful. And that’s why sometimes you see some girls that you think visually they are not aesthetically beautiful but any time they walk into a room everybody turn it because of her confidence. So beauty to a woman and even men is knowing yourself well, understanding your body and working with what you have. Most women don’t have everything even I don’t have everything but there are some things that you have. Ghandour Cosmetics is all about hair and you now for a woman your face is the first thing someone sees. Your face is your introduction and your hair is the crown of the face.

Omotola seems to be aging gracefully; I can see strands of grey hair showing in your hair?

Am I aging? It’s makeup.

But you are not growing any younger?

Neither are you. Well I am 38 years old and I am not scared of growing old. But even if I was 51 that is not the point even small children now have grey hairs. The point is in life I think we should all embrace who we are. I think if people are sufficient in life they feel like you are achieving you won’t even be afraid of age. But when you look back in life and you think have not achieved anything you will feel like time is running by then you will be afraid of aging. But if you are contented in life and know that all fingers are not equal and you are where you are meant to be because you could actually be six feet below. That you are alive and healthy in itself is enough reason to celebrate.

You are a stylish woman, who make your dresses?

I make it a point of duty not to promote designers that are not Nigerians. Like this outfit is not designed by a Nigerian so I don’t need to hype it but I am styled by Moashi styling is my stylist and she dresses me. I only hype Nigerian designers.

As a Nigerian and a celebrity, how will you rate the state of the nation, the economy?

You know I am an activist I am not going to dwell much on that for now. But just lightly I am just going to say that I believe that the president, just the president, not until he beyond doubt convinces us that he is actually not for our interests, I think I for now chose to believe him based on his past history. I want to believe him as a man of honour, I want to believe that he knows what he wants to achieve and I wish everyone will support him for now until he shows us truly that he has ulterior motives. For now we should believe him and trust him.

Police nab pastor for chaining teenager in Ogun state

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested the fleeing pastor who chained his son for over a month.
Pastor Francis Taiwo had chained his son, Korede Taiwo, in a room inside the Key of Joy Celestial Church of Christ, Ajibawo, in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
A team of the police operatives from Onipanu Division of the command and the Nigeria ‎Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ota had rescued the victim on Friday.

The NSCDC operatives had gone on surveillance of petroleum pipeline in Ajibawo when neighbours of the pastor informed them about the boy’s ordeal.
They swung into action and arrested Korede’s step mother, Kehinde, who told the police that the father had chained the victim for stealing.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said Francis was arrested Sunday with the help of the members of the Celestial Church of Christ, Ota.
The police said suspect, a father of five, confirmed that Korede’s mother, Marine Taiwo, who hailed from Delta State is late. And that she had four children for him, two boys and two girls, before she divorced him in 2007, just after she gave birth to Korede.
Adejobi said Francis confessed that he chained Korede because he felt “he’s possessed and he’s not comfortable with his habit of stealing.”
Adejobi said, “According to police investigation, none of Korede’s siblings stays with the pastor.
‎”Pastor Francis, who hails from Benin Republic, but born in Ota Ogun State into the same Celestial church, was ordained as a pastor in the church in 2012.
“He was married to two wives before he got married to Kehinde, the step mother to Korede, who is a suspect in the ongoing case with the command.”
Adejobi said the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of Zone 2, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed that the case be transferred to the Anti-Human trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the Command for necessary investigation and actions on the welfare of Korede.
